MOL Elevates Safety Training with LeoXR

MOL Group, one of Central Europe’s leading energy companies, operates complex industrial facilities where safety is a top priority. With large-scale operations involving scaffolding, cranes, and other high-risk activities, ensuring that every employee can identify potential hazards is essential.

The company recognized that while employees can successfully learn and pass tests on safety regulations during traditional classroom training, the real challenge is consistently adhering to these rules in their daily work.

To strengthen safety awareness and make training more effective, MOL partnered with Leopoly to develop an immersive, hazard-recognition VR experience. The application’s goal isn’t just to teach theoretical knowledge; it’s to confront employees with the real consequences of poor decisions and a disregard for safety rules. This new approach allows workers to experience the impact of their actions on safety, transforming rule compliance from a mere obligation into a conscious act based on a true understanding of the risks involved.

The Solution

Working closely with MOL’s safety experts, Leopoly designed a fully interactive VR hazard recognition experience.

Inside a realistic 3D industrial environment, users can freely move around and explore various safety-critical areas, from crane zones to scaffolding and restricted safety areas. Using intuitive gaze-click interaction, participants identify hazards and make decisions about how to respond, eliminating the need for controllers and reducing the learning curve for new users.

The experience emphasizes observation, awareness, and decision-making in a lifelike context, allowing trainees to practice safe behavior in a controlled, repeatable, and data-driven way.

The Results

The VR training program transformed MOL’s approach to safety education.

  • Higher engagement: Employees actively participate in identifying hazards rather than passively consuming information.
  • Improved knowledge retention: The immersive nature of VR helps trainees remember safety protocols more effectively.
  • Scalable and multilingual: The modular architecture allows easy expansion to new scenarios and language versions.
  • Accessible and intuitive: Gaze-based interaction makes it suitable for large groups and first-time VR users.

Through this collaboration, MOL demonstrated how enterprise-grade VR training can bring safety culture to life, making workplaces not only smarter but safer.
